Sales/Occupancy Level Projections
I am working on my business plan and I am currently trying to create a sales forecast. I am struggling with estimating how many dogs I will have for boarding/daycare/grooming starting from day one (and going into the first few months open, really). I realize I can begin multiplying my growth by say, 15% in future months, but the first few months are really a mystery to me and cash-wise they are obviously the most important. Any suggestions??

Best I can tell you is try to build a buzz, and advertise and network with various pet related groups prior to opening.
This is not a biz of if you build it will come, it is a business of if you build it and advertise it and work it, and drag customers in they will come. If you then treat them and their pets right, then they will tell their friends.. Word of mouth plays a huge part in the success of this business.
For some reason I was just emailed that my post has a new comment. Since my initial post, I have since moved from the corporate accounting world to operating my own accounting business for small and medium sized businesses. What is interesting is that I have been considering specializing in doggy daycares since my passion was to open one so many years ago. I wasn't sure how to break into the market, however, this may be a sign that I need to try!
I have been going through the site doing a considerable amount of updates, and actually putting the requisite time back into it. Part of that was going through and looking at old moderation queues and posting comments etc that had been lost in the basement of needing approval.
As to your acconting business what state? I essentially handed off the brick and mortar aspect of this business and have moved my focus to the consulting and web side. I found that it provided me much more time to enjoy life without having to micro manage my store front everyday.
Lastly if entering the DDC industry is on your bucket list feel free to ask me all the questions you like. Its wonderful, rewarding and in my case was a very profitable endevour..
